Fountains Cottage was built in 1749 and originally served as a farmhouse. Spread over three floors, this spacious holiday cottage is full of character with its exposed stone and beams inside.

Wake up to the gurgling River Skell, which flows near the cottage, before exploring Fountains Abbey. Just a short walk from the cottage, you'll have free entry to the abbey and can explore the grounds at any time during your stay. The abbey ruins had a starring role in The Secret Garden (2020), so you’ll be walking in the footsteps of film stars.

A little further afield, head to the spa town of Harrogate. Discover its boutiques, high-end restaurants and historic tea rooms. Or delve into the wilds of the Yorkshire Dales, which are just a 35 minute drive away.

Sitting room with open fire. Snug with ornamental fireplace (not in use). Dining room with woodburner. Kitchen with service hatch to the dining room. Pantry. Utility room. Shower room. Toilet.
First floor layout
King-size bedroom. Another king-size bedroom. Twin bedroom with two 6'3 beds (which can be made into a double bed on request). Bathroom with bath and walk-in shower.
Second floor layout
Double bedroom (which can be made into a twin bedroom on request). Large bathroom with roll-top bath with shower attachment (no wall hook).

What's provided in a National Trust holiday cottage?
Induction hob: There is an induction hob. If you have a pacemaker, please check with your doctor to make sure the hob will not interfere with your pacemaker, and keep a distance of at least 60cm (2ft) from the hob when it is on.

Heating: Gas Central Heating included.

Logs: This cottage has an open fire in the sitting room and a woodburner in the dining room. We’ll lay the first fire for you and supply a few extra logs. More logs are available to purchase when making a booking. The current price will be shown on the payment page.

Parking: There are two parking spaces next to the cottage. Additional parking is available in the nearby National Trust car park.

Telephone: There is limited mobile phone signal, but there is a shared pay phone provided for use by all cottages for outgoing calls.

Wi-Fi: We provide free Wi-Fi access which is supplied by BT. Please note intermittent connection problems can occur and line speeds can vary as can coverage within the building. The connection is unlikely to be suitable for gaming or streaming.

Dogs: Whilst one dog is allowed at this property, the garden is shared and therefore dogs have access to a field opposite the property for exercise.

Please note: Holiday cottage guests have free access to Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Estate during opening hours and after hours until dusk once the public have gone home. This is with the exception of Fridays in November, December and January when the estate is closed on Fridays.
