About Gardens House
An idyllic stay on the Ickworth estate with a lakeside garden and homely interior.Peeping through the mulberry trees, right on the edge of the lake sits this three-bedroom house. It nestles in the heart of the 1800-acre Ickworth estate, alongside its walled gardens and fluffy wildflower meadows. It was once lived in by the head gardener of the estate, and now makes the perfect lakeside retreat, complete with classic furnishings and an open fire. Its highlight though, is its two private gardens; one filled with shrubs and espaliered fruit trees and the other backing onto the lake.
You’ll have direct access to the parklands, Italianate gardens and Ickworth's impressive Rotunda. Follow the well-marked hiking, running and cycling trails that wrap around the estate. Many events take place here throughout the year, from guided walks to craft workshops, so be sure to see what’s on.
Surrounded by countryside with 1,000 years of history to explore, Bury St Edmunds offers visitors award-winning restaurants, fantastic shopping, annual festivals, and a great day out for families. From the magnificent St Edmundsbury Cathedral, and historic ruins of the 11th century Abbey of St Edmund, to the artisan, independent shops surrounding the medieval grid of the town centre.
Further afield visit the ancient university town of Cambridge, only 40 minutes away, take to the water and explore the city by punting tours and relax in the green spaces of one of the many parks. For a day trip, discover the varied and picturesque coastline on the Suffolk Coast. A chance to see the flourishing wildlife which makes Suffolk its home and plenty of walks taking in the beautiful views.

Notes for guests
Please Note: Over the next year, Ickworth is set to secure its future – with your help – thanks to a major new conservation project. Ickworth is embarking on a multi-million pound major conservation project which will see us heading up to the roof. The iconic Rotunda, the original vision of the Earl Bishop in 1795, has stood proud in the Suffolk countryside for many years. However, like any house, it needs support and protection to make sure it will stand for generations to come. To find out more about the work visit Ickworth Uncovered and discover how Ickworth will be re-imagined during these conservation works.
The holiday cottages and remainder of the wider estate will be unaffected. Cottage guests out of hours access to the park will be maintained.
