Hoist the sails at Wray Castle

Get out on the water with beginners sailing sessions from our boathouse on Windermere. Then tick off your ’50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾’ by catching a falling leaf, rolling down a really big hill and climbing a tree.

William Wordsworth was the original wild child, spending his days wild swimming, roaming fields and insect hunting. At Wordsworth House and Garden in Cockermouth, you can follow in his footsteps.

The stunning views at Fell Foot

Become a stone skimming champion

We’re hosting the All England Open Stone Skimming Championships at Fell Foot on the shores of Lake Windermere. It’s the only official English stone skimming contest and everyone is welcome. Come along to watch the experts, or have a go yourself on Saturday 17 August.

Get wet in Langdale

Langdale is one of the finest natural playgrounds in the country – it’s home to the majestic Langdale Pikes, world class rock climbing and stunning mountain tarns. We’ve teamed up with a group of experienced instructors who can teach anyone the basics of rock climbing or gorge scrambling.

Wild Play at Sizergh

Take the wild play trail at Sizergh

This one is for the kids (big or small) to explore. It’s a trail which tests your balance, stamina and brainpower, taking you off the beaten track into the depths of the woods. It’s also the perfect place to try building a den - number 4 on your ’50 things’ list.

Tent lit at night

Sleep under the stars

After spending a day exploring the great outdoors, finish your trip by camping with us. We’ve four campsites across the Lakes – try sleeping under traditional canvas, in a safari tent, pod, yurt, or wild cook and sleep in a hammock under the stars!
