Our Rangers will take you high tree climbing, zip wiring, mini-raft building and barefoot walking. If there’s time to spare, take a trip to our very own, brand-new secret treehouse (treecastle in fact) in the woods.

William Wordsworth was the original wild child, spending his days wild swimming, roaming fields and insect hunting. At Wordsworth House and Garden in Cockermouth, you can try several of our '50 things,' such as hunting for bugs, making a grass trumpet and snail racing.

Become a stone skimming champion

We’re hosting the All England Open Stone Skimming Championships at Fell Foot on the shores of Lake Windermere. It’s the only official English stone skimming contest and everyone is welcome. Come along to watch the experts, or have a go yourself on Saturday 20 August.

Langdale is one of the finest natural playgrounds in the country – it’s home to the majestic Langdale Pikes, world class rock climbing and stunning mountain tarns. We’ve teamed up with a group of experienced instructors who can teach anyone the basics of rock climbing or gorge scrambling.

Aira Force in Ullswater is one of the few remaining places in England where our native red squirrels still thrive. Kids (young and old) can tackle Cyril’s red squirrel ramble around Aira Force. Find the squirrels, answer the questions and unlock the password to become a squirrel detective.

This one is for the kids (big or small) to explore. Over at Sizergh, Kendal, it’s a trail which tests your balance, stamina and brainpower, taking you off the beaten track into the depths of the woods. Practice balancing on logs, rope swinging and tree climbing You’ll also spot a few ancient trees and a lot of wildlife – keep your eyes peeled for the extra special buzzards and roe deer…

Hill Top is the home of Beatrix Potter. You can follow in the footsteps, paws and claws of her favourite characters with a visit to her garden. We’ve our very own Mr McGregor, and he may help you with clues to discover more about Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddleduck or Mrs Tiggy Winkle.
