Rooms of Petworth House may be closed for our annual winter clean but there is still plenty of activity indoors at Petworth. This season we're highlighting some of our most precious works. In the North Gallery and Chapel see works by Royal Academicians as part of the 250th anniversary of the Royal Academy and from 26 January discover our newest exhibition. Visit us again from 26 March to see the full extent of the state rooms.

Petworth's Royal Academicians: 10 champions of British art

While a selection of the rooms in Petworth House are closed for important conservation work we are shining the light on the North Gallery and Chapel. From 2 January see an exhibit that highlights 10 masterpieces by founders and members of the Royal Academy that shaped the course of British art.

Why are some rooms closed?

Petworth was never built to receive the 160,000 visitors it has every year. To ensure we can look after the house, the collection and the interiors we close off rooms over the winter to ensure Petworth can survive for as long as possible for future generations to enjoy.
