Guided walks in Petworth Park

New for 2019 we are running guided walks of the Park led by one of our knowledgeable volunteers. These two hour walks look at different aspects of the Capability Brown landscape deer park including spring colour, archaeology, the historic trees and wildlife.

From guided walks on the archaeology of the Deer Park to the wildlife we have a series of 2 hour guided walk that run throughout the year.

For all our walks please arrive in plenty of time to avoid being left behind.

Normal admission prices do not apply for the walk but you will need to have your membership card scanned or pay for entry if you wish to visit Petworth House or the Pleasure Ground after the walk. The Deer Park is free to enter from the Deer Park car park sign posted as 'Petworth Park' located along the A283 away from Petworth town.

The terrain can be rough with some steep slopes, we recommend bringing suitable clothing and footwear as well as your own water.

Deer Park Archaeology

Thursday 16 May, 10:30 - 12:30, £3 suggested donation

From medieval farmsteads and Tudor hunting lodge to World War II remnants find out about some of the archaeological findings we've uncovered.

Spring in the Park

Find out more about early flowering and the positive impact on beetles, see some of the birds of the lower pond and find out more about the deer fawning season.

History of the Deer Park

Saturday 15 June, 10:30 - 12:30, £3 suggested donation

Covering the various areas of the Park and what they were used for throughout history, the walk explores Coney Park and Little Park all the way to Outwood and the lost gardens and commons as well as the emergence of the Brownian Deer Park.

Please meet in the Deer Park Car Park along the A283, north of the main Petworth House car park and sign posted 'Petworth Park'.

Perseids and Nocturnal Wildlife

Monday 12 August, 20:00 - 22:00, £6 per adult, free for children.

Bring along your torch and blanket and visit the Deer Park at night discovering some of the nocturnal wildlife of the Deer Park and try out a bit of star gazing, we might be lucky enough to catch the meteor shower before 10pm.

Deer Rut

Friday 25 October, 10:30 - 12:30 & Thursday 7 November, 10:30 - 12:30, £3 suggested donation

Find out why deer rut and how we measure the quality of the deer on this guided walk. There's a chance we might see some examples but recommend bringing binoculars and there will be an element of hiding and remaining silent.
