How to discover more about the collection at Petworth House

The Red Room at Petworth House

With tours, short talks, leaflets and interpretation boards in the house we have plenty of information on hand so you can explore more about the history behind items in the collection and the stories behind the masterpieces.

Highlight leaflets

If your interest is Shakespeare or Turner or perhaps even objects and furniture then why not pick up a free highlight leaflet in Oak Hall, as you enter the house, for a themed leaflet that explains some of the collection at Petworth House. There are leaflets on some of the highlight pieces of art in the collection, so even someone new to the art world knows what to look out for.

Interpretation boards

Throughout the state rooms and Servants’ Quarters we have interpretation boards you can pick up that cover particular subjects in each room. From an interpretation board with a diagram of the family tree to more about the history of the state rooms and what they were used for there are several boards you can pick up that have further information on the spaces you are in.

Room Stewards

We also have red folders in each room that have basic information on the collection items if an object or painting has caught your eye and you want to know more. Do remember our Room Steward volunteers are there to help, if you would like to know more about the room, it’s history or more about a particular item our Room Stewards can answer any questions.
