Journeys of the Imagination at Quarry Bank
Pack your bags for an adventure as you discover the incredible journeys made by the people of Quarry Bank. Taking inspiration from the diaries, letters and photographs in the archive, we’re recreating, rewriting and reinventing incredible journeys made to and from Quarry Bank. From 5 May to 28 October 2018, follow an interactive trail where you can take a journey into the past and your own imagination.
Journeys of the Imagination takes you on an interactive trail around Quarry Bank to discover six stories. On the trail you can travel to India with Elizabeth Mary Greg as she follows her dream of being an explorer, hide from the mill overlookers with runaway apprentice William Tittensor, and journey through Spain and Portugal with Robert Hyde Greg.
In the mill you can continue your adventures in the Exhibition Space. Discover the real lives of the characters featured in ‘Journeys of the Imagination’ and play in the interactive exhibition. You can get dressed up and act out your very own story, hide out under the stars in a wigwam, or have a go at making a moving image spinner.
Some unusual objects from the Quarry Bank collection are also on display in the Exhibition Space – you can have a go at guessing what they are or create your own story about them. Take a look at original journals and photograph albums of the Greg family on their travels, or draw where you’ve been on a globe.
Quarry Bank admission charges apply for the Journeys of the Imagination trail and exhibition.
