Make the most of the season at Quarry Bank

Visitors enjoying a walk in the woods

This time of year is perfect for grabbing your coat and scarf, and gathering the family together for a wintery walk. We’re open every day between Boxing Day and Sunday 7 January 2018. You can explore the gardens and the estate, and join the Greg family and the apprentices for Twelfth Night celebrations.

Blow away the cobwebs with a winter walk

Explore the gardens and the beautiful estate on a crisp winter’s day, and see if you can spot some of our wonderful wildlife. As you wander along the river keep a lookout for flashes of electric blue as the kingfishers whizz by. If you’re really lucky, you might even be able to catch a rare glimpse of an otter as they slip into the water. In the gardens, you can take a wander through the restored glasshouse and see the array of exotic plants and fruit, as well as taking in the seasonal poinsettia display.

Interpreters in Georgian costume

On the Twelfth Day of Christmas…

We’re indulging in traditional celebrations as we keep the festive season going right up to Twelfth Night. In Georgian England, Twelfth Night was a highlight in the calendar, with families gathering round for feasting, games, riddles, and music. In Quarry Bank House, the Greg family’s guests are assembled and you can meet a full cast of characters, from Mr Greg’s business partner Mr Turner, to his daughters Hannah, Mary and Sarah and their acquaintances.

Grab a bargain in the winter sale

Don’t miss the winter sale in the mill and garden shops, with a range of beautiful gifts, food and homeware reduced. The mill shop will be closed for refurbishment from 1 January 2018, but the garden shop is fully open during normal opening hours.
