October half-term at Quarry Bank

Family on the mill meadow

Join us at Quarry Bank this half-term for lots of autumn fun. From 24 October - 1 November, wrap up warm, stomp through fallen leaves and get closer to nature to create your very own magic wand. Then head to the herb garden to search for potions and spells, perfect for young explorers. Pumpkins are spilling out from their beds in the walled garden, and if you look closely there’s a magical, spellbinding world hidden amongst the trees . . .

Magic wand journey sticks

Get closer to nature and transform your journey stick into a magic wand by collecting and attaching leaves, conkers and natures fallen bounty on a stroll through the woods. Head to the Welcome Building where you’ll find some ideas to get you started. Bring your own stick or find one here at Quarry Bank.

Folklore and traditions

Discover which herbs and plants were used in medicines, potions, folklore and traditions - from pumpkins and squash, to thyme and wormwood. And uncover fun and quirky animal facts as you wind your way through the valley.

Tiny door in a tree trunk

If trees could talk they'd have a few secrets to tell . . .

Who lives here, behind this tiny blue door? Is that a gap between the trees or a portal to another world? Pull on your wellies, stride out on a walk through the valley gardens and see if you can spot signs of mysterious goings on at Quarry Bank.

Family in the mill

And on rainy days . . .

Even on rainy days we’ve got you covered! Head inside the mill to hear the clatter and roar of the historic machinery as it thunders into action, and uncover the stories of the child apprentices who lived and worked at Quarry Bank during the Industrial Revolution. Please note that due to coronavirus we’ve had to change things a little inside the Mill. Find out more about what to expect from your visit here.
