Shopping at Sandham Memorial Chapel
Come and explore our shop, with books and gifts especially selected to reflect Stanley Spencer's life and work, as well as themes of remembrance and the visual arts.
Located just inside reception, our small shop stocks an exciting range of books, postcards, ceramics, gifts and plants which reflect the themes of the chapel, its paintings and gardens, and the spirit of creativity that is so deeply rooted in the local area.
Our selection of gifts, jewellery, home and garden accessories with poppy designs reflect the importance of Sandham's role as a memorial to those who served on the eastern front in the First World War.
The exclusive Sandham range of local handpainted ceramics includes plates, mugs and hanging ornaments, all decorated with a beautiful image of the chapel, inspired by the much loved Delft Blue ceramics of the Netherlands.
In addition to our guidebook and the detailed exhibition catalogue which accompanied the paintings on their recent tour, we have a comprehensive selection of books about Stanley, his life and work, and the themes that influenced him, as well as books about other First World War artists and collections of poetry and letters from the period. These are complemented by pre-loved, out of print titles which we have sourced especially for those who wish to learn more about Stanley and his life.
Our range of handmade work by local artists includes ceramics, jewellery, decorative items, bookmarks and cards; encompassing a range of techniques from watercolours and silk painting to glass work, textiles and ceramics painting. These beautiful items make ideal gifts or a perfect treat for yourself!
Plants and Gardens
All of our plants are grown locally, especially for us in peat-free compost and often include more unusual varieties. Our range of outdoor sculptures, stakes and ornaments will look wonderful in any garden and our selection of bird feeders will encourage feathered friends to enjoy your garden, too. Secateurs and deadhead snips will help to keep plants under control in the summer months.
For those who like to get out to explore, we have binoculars, water bottles, picnic rugs and folding cutlery, as well as sun hats and umbrellas to protect you whatever the weather.
Every sale supports our important conservation work and helps us to care for the chapel and its paintings.
