Rag rug textiles exhibition and workshop

From rags to riches, rag rugging is a traditional craft that involves using leftover cloth to create items to furnish the home.

Exhibition: Monday 23 May - Tuesday 5 June, 10.30am-5.30pm

Workshop: Wednesday 1 June, 11.30am-3pm.

NB there may be a small charge for some materials used at the workshop. Normal admission applies. Members free.

Passed down through the generations, this traditional skill became synonymous with superstitions -  did you know a red diamond on a rag rug was said to prevent the devil from coming down the chimney?

Learn about this age-old craft  from the rag rugs dotted around the house. Have a go on the work-in-progress rag rug in the hall or come along to the workshop on Wednesday 1 June, where our rag rug volunteers will assist you in making your own rag rug craft. Craft kits are also available to purchase from our small shop.
