Learning about the merchant and Tudor dining

Our popular education programme gives schools and groups the opportunity to spend more time at the house. During term time, we open the house on Tuesdays for pre-booked school visits only.

Delve into the Tudors

Admission for groups of 15 or more: child £1.70, adult £3.45 (free for National Trust Education Group Members).

Our one-hour house tour is included in the admission price. If you want to look in more detail at daily life for the merchant and his family, we offer additional sessions which can be added to your visit for a small charge. All sessions are delivered in English with bilingual worksheets.

The House Tour

‘The House tour’ is an introduction to daily life for the merchant and his family. Our staff and volunteers will be in Tudor costume and there are tabards for children to wear. The house tour is included in the admission price - free if your school has National Trust Education Group membership.

Tenby Harbour walk

Take a short walk to Tenby Harbour accompanied by one of our staff members. See where the merchant’s wares would have landed and imagine the hustle and bustle of the busiest port in Wales. (The walk will include a toilet stop if your group is returning for additional activities at the Tudor Merchant’s House.)

How do I look?

Learn all about Tudor dress in 1500. Look at, and discuss, the costumes worn by our staff, then dress up a boy and a girl in our specially made costumes (designed to fit over their own clothes) to show how a Tudor child would have looked.

What's for lunch?

Discover what the merchant and his family would have had to eat and drink. We'll give you ideas for a Tudor 'packed lunch' so your class can eat and learn at the same time.
