Go wild at Wallington this summer

River dipping this summer at Wallington

There are six weeks of fun and adventure at Wallington this summer, with nature taking centre stage for your family days out. Each week will have a different theme and will take you on a journey of exploration and discovery, as you learn about everything natural on the Wallington estate. Organised activities with staff and volunteers will take place every Tuesday and Thursday during the holidays, with self-led activities available everyday throughout the whole summer break.

Monday 23 July - Sunday 2 September

Week 1 - Plant it, grow it, eat it! (23-29 July)

In the first week of the summer holidays, find out about quick growing edibles and plant up your own seeds to take home and grow, ready for future dinner times! Enjoy The Very Hungry Caterpillar themed crafts in Tooblez.

Week 2 – Mysterious mini-beasts – bugs and butterflies (30 July-5 August)

During the second week of the holidays, join one of the Wallington Ranger’s to do some bug and butterfly hunting in the wild flower meadow and woodlands.  Take part in the Big Butterfly Count with us and get creative with some insect themed crafts.

Week 3 – The Secret Life of Trees (6-12 August)

Enjoy making your own leafy prints using different techniques. Take a walk with the Countryside Manager and hear all about the folklore around people and trees. For indoor fun, add your own leaf-shaped nature themed picture to our tree.

Week 4 – Busy bees (13-19 August)

Hear all about the wonderful world of bees as you meet our expert beekeepers in the walled garden. Enjoy a talk and mini garden safari looking out for our buzzy friends in amongst the flowers. Bee crafts and activities will be taking place in Toobelz house all week.

Week 5 – Life on the Wing - feathered friends (20-26 August)

Head out and about for a spell of bird-watching and then take some time to create your own feathered friend to take home. On Thursday 23 August, make your own Kite with Jenny Dockett. There will be 11 half hour sessions available from 10.30am (maximum of 20 children per session). £1 per child.

Week 6 – Dragonflies and Ducks (27 August-2 September)

Join a Wallington team member for river dipping, looking at what lies beneath the water and create a watery themed picture using wet felting. For fun in Toobelz, there will be lots of nature-themed fun and crafts.

And don't forget the fabulous Dragon cycle trail, a chance to get active and explore more of Wallington as you venture further into the Northumbrian countryside on the wider estate. Watch out for other opportunities to get active outdoors coming this summer too!
