Wightwick's Summer Gardens
The gardens at Wightwick are a perfect place to spend a warm lazy day strolling through the flowers and picnicking on the lawns. The garden was designed to create an emotional response and at this time of year it feels very peaceful and relaxing, with lots of quiet corners and places to spend an hour or so with a book.
Roses are a real theme across the whole garden, from the main path in, past our formal rose beds, lined with impressive hybrid tea roses and their large proud blooms, to the formal garden where climbers cover the pergola and herbaceous borders are crammed with colour.
In the kitchen garden you can see beautiful modern “English Roses” covering the arbour and this year we have re-planted our poets’ borders in front of the south terrace with traditional old roses; damask, centifolia and gallica varieties that will have showy blooms and a wonderful rich scent which will only get better as the plants develop in years to come.
The kitchen garden will be full of lovely produce, some of which you may be able to buy and the glasshouse is always open for visitors to take a look at the peaches and figs as they develop on the fan trained trees.
