Eating at Wray Castle
Run by local foodies The Lakes Catering Company, our new café sits where the original kitchen courtyard once stood.
Fulfilling its original purpose
We've brought the original kitchen courtyard back to life in this space previously unseen by visitors. Now a 21st century café, it's still easy to imagine how it once was: a bustling hive of activity, ready to receive fresh produce from across the Wray estate to transform into delicious meals for the Dawson family.
The Kitchen Court Café offers a simple menu which includes a soup or hot meal of the day, along with tray bakes, scones, cakes, ice cream and other snacks. A selection of hot and cold drinks are available.
A local partnership
Our café is run by local tenants from The Lakes Catering Company, Louise and Richard Flanders, who also run The Cafe in the Courtyard at another of our places just down the road; Claife Viewing Station. They're keen to bake all offerings fresh on site and have a full time chef who prepares their special cakes and bakes.
A percentage of the sales from our café goes towards maintaining the Wray estate, so consider that extra slice of brownie to be guilt free!
A perfect pit stop
The café's new location means that it's now a convenient pit stop if you're walking or cycling along Windermere's west shore. It's positioned towards the back of the castle, near the outdoor loos, so you don't need to enter the castle to refuel.
