From reception walk 30m up the main drive until you reach a gate on your left hand side under some trees which leads you into the parkland. The route is marked as the blue trail.
Follow the edge of the field down to the lake, turning left when you reach the shoreline.
Go through the gate and follow the path along the edge of the lake until you reach the track at the end. Turn right onto this track.
The 'Capability' Brown Lake
The 14 acre lake was created by Brown in the 1780's as a landscape feature as well as a recreational area for the family. It is home to many wild fowl including swans, geese and ducks as well as fish and insects. In the spring the island in the centre of the lake plays host to a group of nesting herons. As such this part of the walk maybe closed at this time.
Follow the new track which takes you up into the woods. Do not turn right along the western edge of the lake passed the old boat house.
The otter holt
We have a remote camera attached to the boat house by the lake. Our 'otter cam' is regularly catching images of resident otters but they are usually at night and poor quality. Amazingly these pictures show two otters, probably a mother and pup during the day. Otters can breed throughout the year but having young makes these normally nocturnal, shy and elusive creatures more visible.
Before you reach the estate cottage turn right over the bridge. Follow this old carriage track along the edge of the wood for over a mile passing the den building area until you come to a marker sending you right down a path and out of the wood.
Woods and den building area
This native woodland marks the edge of the Berrington park. It is full of native trees, shrubs and flowers with something to see all of the year around.
Once in the field turn right again following the fence around the field and the small wood. Go through a gate and into the parkland where you will see the house in front of you. Walk towards the house and enter the grounds through the gate on your left.
