2019 Youth Conservation Residentials

For 2019 we have a refreshed offer for young people who would like to come and achive their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award or Queen’s Scout & Guide Award Residentials.

Our opp­ortunities below are suited to those aged 18-25 wishing to take a working break away, meet new people and for Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and Queen’s Scout & Guide Award participants to meet their residential requirements. They also provide a unique experience for those wishing to get away from it all on a conservation residential and enhance their employability in the sector by gaining some practical conservation experience with National Trust.  

Outdoor learning and activities residential

Participants can gain valuable experience on the beautifully tranquil island of Brownsea situated in Poole harbour as well as knowledge of the flora and fauna it is home to. Expect to get stuck in assisting with a variety of outdoor adventure and learning activities during this residential that is perfect for those with an interest in outdoor learning, or a general interest in learning about the natural world and/or delivering environmental education.

Dates available:

  • April: 8-12 and 15-19
  • May: 2-6  and 23-31
  • July: 8-12 and 15-19

Eco Camping Experience

Participants will assist with the day-to-day running of our busy award-winning Outdoor Centre and campsite; gaining a wide range of experience in assisting with conservation tasks, activity support and helping us with the smooth running of our busy island campsite and Lodge accommodation.

Dates available:

  • June: 10-14 and 17-21
  • Agust: 1-5, 8-12, 15-19, 22-26, 29-2 September

Ranger Residential

Participants will assist the Outdoor Centre and Countryside teams with a wide range of tasks on the island from clearance of invasive species and using hand tools (full training given) to fence repairs and wildlife surveys.

  • February 18-22 
  • March 3-8 
  • September 23-27 


All residentials are £140.00 and include 5 days and 4 nights on Brownsea Island and is inclusive of camping fees, cooking equipment hire, entrance fee to the island and return ferry crossing to either Sandbanks or Poole Quay.
