Camping on Brownsea Island, Dorset

The Brownsea Island Outdoor Centre is located on the island where Lord Baden-Powell set up his original experimental camp in 1907. The Outdoor Centre is open to everyone and there’s lots of different ways you can sample the scouting life; from trying your hand at low ropes or archery on activity days, to camping on the campsite.

Every day at the Outdoor Centre

Drop into the Outdoor Centre on your day trip and whilst you warm up with a cuppa, peruse the Scouting and Guiding paraphernalia available at the Trading Post.  You can learn about Lord Baden Powell’s legacy and pick up a memento of your visit including badges and post cards.  If you drop by in the colder months the rangers light the campfire and invite you to warm your toes by toasting marshmallows.

Low ropes and archery activity days

Raise your bow and aim carefully whilst you try your hand at archery and see if you can hit the target (which is perhaps trickier than you think!) Our rangers will take you through your training whilst you pit yourself against friends or family and have a go at testing your hand eye co-ordination.

In the woodland you’ll come across our newly installed low ropes course split in to different challenges.  Working with a buddy; try manoeuvring yourself around the course without touching the ground. Great for family and friend groups or creative team building; this course caters for little legs or longer arms alike!
