The Brownsea Island Outdoor Centre is located on the island where Lord Baden-Powell set up his original experimental camp in 1907. The Outdoor Centre is open to everyone and there’s lots of different ways you can sample the scouting life.
Every day at the Outdoor Centre
Drop into the Outdoor Centre on your day trip and whilst you warm up with a cuppa, check out the Scouting and Guiding displays at the Trading Post. You can learn about Lord Baden Powell’s legacy and pick up a memento of your visit including badges and post cards. If you drop by in the colder months the rangers light the campfire and invite you to warm your toes and toast marshmallows.
Throughout the year the Outdoor Centre invite all visitors to have a go at some fun adventure activities. Archery is a great way to try something new and test out your hand eye co-ordination. Our rangers will take you through your training and give you tips on how to shoot, whilst you pit yourself against friends or family.
In the woodland you’ll come across our adventurous low ropes course which is split in to different challenges. Working with a buddy; try manoeuvring yourself around the course without touching the ground and be the first to ring the bell at the end. Great for family and friend groups or creative team building; this course caters for little legs or longer arms alike!
Why not bring your budding young naturalists on a Spring Ranger day to learn what its like to look after this incredibly diverse habitat? They'll get stuck in, following in the footsteps of one of our friendly Outdoor Centre rangers and learn some fun bush craft skills. It’s a great opportunity to make friends, get active and make a real difference in helping the team look after this special place.
