From Piddledown Common to the Orchard there's lots of places to picnic at Castle Drogo.

The Orchard

Covered in wild flowers with picnic benches and a tipi this is one of the best places to picnic in the garden. As part of the 50 things to do before you're 11 and 3/4 children are encouraged to go cloud spotting in this area.

Piddledown Common

This area is a bit further away from the visitor centre, however, it has the best views over the gorge and Dartmoor. On a sunny day you'll see lots of butterflies here, as the ranger team have been working to improve the habitat for the pearl bordered-fritillary, which is in decline across the UK.

On Hunters path there is lots of yellow gorse which fills the air with coconut scent.

Croquet Lawn

With the lawn games of tennis and hula hooping this is another great place to picnic. There's lots of space for a picnic rug and room to run around.

You'll find rubbish and recycling bins in the car park if you need to get rid of any rubbish but there aren't any bins around the garden.

On the croquet lawn you'll find lots of games such as hula hoops and tennis.
