Castle Drogo's best picnic spots

From Piddledown Common to the Orchard there's lots of places to picnic at Castle Drogo.

The Orchard

Covered in wild flowers with picnic benches this is one of the best places to picnic in the garden. Look out for the family friendly activities on chalk boards around the meadow.

Piddledown Common

This area is a bit further away from the visitor centre, however, it has the best views over the gorge and Dartmoor. On a sunny day you'll see lots of butterflies here, as the ranger team have been working to improve the habitat for the pearl bordered-fritillary, which is in decline across the UK.

On Hunters path there is lots of yellow gorse which fills the air with coconut scent.

Croquet Lawn

There's lots of space for a picnic rug and room to run around.

Please note we ask that visiotrs take rubish home with them at present, there aren't any bins around the garden but there are bins availble outside the cafe.
