Visiting Cragside with your dog
We love dogs at Cragside and they are welcome in all of the outdoors spaces on the estate. As the name suggests, Cragside is built on a craggy outcrop with rocky pathways and some cliff edges. The estate is also home to some resident wildlife, including deers and red squirrels, so we ask all dog owners to keep four-legged friends on a lead at all times.
Where can my dog go?
Dogs are welcome in the outdoor spaces at Cragside including the Rock Garden, Formal Garden, Pinetum and woodland. There are 14 way-marked walks to explore across this 1000 acre estate and all are accessible for dogs.
Where can't my dog go?
Assistance dogs only in the House, shop and tea room. Outdoor seating is available under canopy at the tea rooms.
What do I need to be aware of at Cragside?
To make sure that everyone has an enjoyable day please follow our Canine Code:
- Take the lead: help reduce the chance of your pup disturbing wildlife by keeping them on a lead.
- Scoop that poop: bag it and bin it to keep your favourite places beautiful.
- Paws for thought: look out for information signs and take extra care on walkways and routes through the estate.
- Be on the ball: not everyone loves dogs, so keep them close by.
Facilities available for my dog
There are water bowls located in the visitor centre courtyard and outside the House. There are six dog bins located on the estate; Archemides Screw, either end of the main car park, two at Nelly's Moss Lakes and one at Croziers carpark.
