Winter conservation in action

Ever wondered what happens in our country houses over the winter?  Our tour guides are pretty much given free rein to take you to different parts of the castle including the formal family rooms and working areas of the servants.

We will share stories of how people lived and worked in the rooms, but also tell you about the work of the National Trust and how our team look after the castle.  You may visit on a day when the house is quiet and atmospheric, or you may find the house full of staff and volunteers going about their work.  Who knows what you’ll discover behind the scenes…

Tours run daily* at 11.15am, 12.30pm, 1.00pm and 2.15pm.  Spaces are limited and tickets are allocated from our ticket office on a first come, first served basis.

*On days when the ground floor rooms of the castle are open for our Christmas events (9, 15, 16 – 23 Dec, then 26 – 31 Dec) we will be running shorter tours of the Victorian Kitchens only.
