Garden and grounds at Penrhyn Castle

Like the castle itself, Penrhyn’s grounds and gardens are extensive, dramatic, a feast for the senses and offer something for everyone.

Please don't keep off the grass!

With views over Conwy Bay and Snowdonia, the unfussy lawns at Penrhyn are a perfect spot for a picnic, where young explorers can run, roll and cartwheel to their heart's content. Nature trails through dark woods and an adventure playground will keep mind and body active and enthralled.

It’s a jungle out there!

Monstrous Gunnera plants dominate the jungle-esque Bog Garden. Lose yourself amongst its leaves or head up to the thatched hut for an elevated view.

Neat and tidy

Peace and tranquillity can be found in the precise topiary, geometric lines, bubbling fountains and meticulous planting of the Walled Garden. Here, Walter Speed’s 19th-century vision for one of Britain’s top three gardens of the time can really be appreciated.

Penrhyn pooches

Penrhyn is also perfect for canine companions, with top-quality trails to sniff and bushes to explore. We do ask that you keep dogs on a short lead but please feel free to let your imagination run wild!
