10K self-led run, walk or jog on the Tin Coast. Discover the beauty, history and wildlife... oh, and cake.
Tin-K any day with this 10K self-led route from Botallack
The route starts at Botallack Count House Workshop where there is a National Trust car park (free for National Trust members) and refreshments available during opening hours. The route then heads west along the bridleways until it reaches the South West Coast Path (SWCP) near Kenidjack. Tackling the steep hill, the route then keeps to the SWCP until reaching the road at Pendeen. A short easterly stretch of road and the route turns in across the fields and back to Botallack, passing Geevor and Levant Tin Mines along the way.
The route is undulating, as you may expect for the Cornish coast path. There is grass, rocky trails, and one short section of road to cover. Although the SWCP is way-marked, much of the route needs to be self-navigated, so please brush-up on your skills beforehand to avoid the frustration of losing your way.
The Tin-K was originally held as a race on Sunday 21 May 2017 from Geevor Tin Mine. To see the results, click on the link 2017 Tin-K Results (PDF / 0MB) download .
The Tin Coast landscape intrigues the imagination. Be sure to spare a full day with us to find out more about this Cornish Mining World Heritage Site. There's plenty to discover at Geevor, Levant, and Botallack Count House, and this Site of Special Scientific Interest.
Alice Barker, Outdoor Activities Development Officer for the National Trust in West Cornwall says 'I fall a little bit more in love with the Tin Coast every time I'm there. I love the vibrant, cheerful bluebells in May and the severity of the landscape in winter. The hills almost go unnoticed as I'm blown away by the wilderness of the place'
