Mary scoops up ‘Scone of the Month’ Prize!

Tray of scones freshly baked

A scone is just the perfect tea-time treat, whether its jam-and-cream-topped plain, packed with sultanas or a modern spin with chocolate. However you prefer your scone, we’re agreed we all love the classic baked treat!

We’re delighted to congratulate our very own Mary ‘Berry’ better known as Mary Morrison from the Food and Beverage team who has scooped up the ‘Scone of the Month’ prize!

As part of the excitement for the next National Trust Cookbook which is due to be released soon, properties across the Trust were invited to submit a new scone recipe for 2020. The cookbook is a kitchen staple, where the National Trust share their hugely popular, tried-and-tested dishes so you can cook your favourites at home.

Mary from our Giant’s Causeway café submitted a recipe for a yummy Blueberry and Oat scone and has successfully won the prize claiming the title of ‘August scone’ which will be the recommended central scone of the month for August 2020.

This successful entry meant the Giant’s Causeway were the only property within Northern Ireland to win within the Scone of the Month Competition, so GIANT congratulations to Mary!

As a prize she has been invited as the creator of this recipe to a day at Hobbs House Bakery Cookery School, established in the Cotswolds in the 1920’s and a true family business with five generations of baking experience they hold a range of different baking courses.
