How to get to Hill Top whilst the car ferry is closed

Due to a mechanical fault, the council's Windermere Car Ferry services have currently been suspended until October, but replacement services are running for foot passengers and cyclists.

Windermere Lake Cruises is helping foot passengers who have been affected by the ferry closure by running additional sailings from Bowness jetties to Ferry House on Windermere’s western shore. Full details and schedule can be found on Windermere Lake Cruises’ website.

Once you've reached the western shore, to reach Hill Top, take the Mountain Goat 525 bus from Ferry House, which drops off at Hill Top and then continues through to Hawkshead and the Beatrix Potter Gallery. If you're feeling energetic and would rather walk or cycle the route, take the new footpath which connects Hill Top with Hawkshead.

You can of course still drive to Hill Top via Ambleside, just please be aware that there is limited parking on site.
