Spoil yourself this Christmas
Forget the busy high streets and crammed shopping centres, visit Hinton Ampner’s shop this Christmas for a range of unique gifts. We stock a variety of presents and treats, as well as items for the home and garden. There is always a great mix of local products as well as our National Trust favourites.
Hinton Ampner is the perfect place to escape to for some peaceful Christmas shopping. Our shop features exclusive ranges created by the National Trust’s in-house team of designers, and inspired by the beautiful collections in its care.
The packed and colourful displays include cards featuring places and countryside that the Trust cares for, alongside sparkling baubles, tealight holders and Advent calendars – look out for beautiful wooden designs of winter animals.
Inspired by our obsession with nature throughout the centuries, the 'Natural World' design is created exclusively for the National Trust by the charity’s own design team. The collection reflects the way that artists, botanists and collectors would capture a particular species, and uses an inky, organic palette to reproduce delicate ferns and preserved dried flowers. Deep red, green and blue botanical patterns inspired by the herbarium at Felbrigg Hall and illustrations from Blickling in Norfolk, feature on snuggly scarfs, cosy cushions and ceramic homewares.
And of course Hinton Ampner also stocks the National Trust’s own freshly stoneground flour, milled at Winchester City Mill by its team of volunteer millers, and perfect for festive puddings and pies.
Here at Hinton Ampner, we are committed to supporting local businesses as much as we can. This Christmas we have a special treat from Ouse Valley with their Christmas Pudding Marmalade which won a Gold Award at the Dalemain Marmalade Awards. Made from Seville oranges, lemons, brandy soaked fruit and the spices of Christmas it provides a highly original and scrumptious seasonal take on marmalade. To accompany this, we also sell their unusual Three Kings’ Chutney which contains bananas and dates adding natural sweetness and a silky texture.
Another festive favourite is Wrights Original Dark Ginger. For use on practically anything, from pouring over ice cream to a mixer in your whiskey, this delicious syrup can improve any meal whilst claiming the health benefits associated with ginger.
With the winter weather setting in, plants can often be neglected. Not here at Hinton Ampner though. We continue to stock a variety of shade tolerant plants including the stunning cornus midwinter fire which is often grown for the orange-red and yellow coloured stems which are brightest in winter.
We also have the pretty sarcococca confusa which originated in China and the Himalayas and has small delicate flowers which produce a rich scent.
That book you’ve always meant to read may be waiting for you in the well-stocked second-hand bookshop by the plant centre. Every penny taken here goes back to helping us with our projects and conservation work.
