This Halloween, the rooks have fled their rookery in Rook Wood and taken shelter at the castle. Nobody knows why, but If they don’t return soon, doom is set to befall the castle this Halloween and all who set foot inside...

From the 21 - 31 October you can visit Penrhyn Castle and help us solve the mystery of Rook Wood, before it's too late.

These fun family days offer something for all the family, from activities for little ghouls to scary tales for the larger ghosts who walk amongst us:

Castle 'Rook Wood Mystery trail'
Families of all ages are invited to come and find out why the rooks have fled their rookery in Rook Wood and help save Penrhyn Castle by following the spooky trail and piecing together the answer. Watch out for scares along the way...

Ten minute terror tales
New for 2017. Older ghouls (8+) and families can enjoy a chilling tale of myths, legends and gruesome goings on in the dining room. The tales will cost £1, bookable on the day and will be performed by a professional actor. Starting at 12.30pm, eleven tales will be performed throughout the day, lasting 10 - 12 minutes each.

Shadow crafts & storytelling
Younger visitors can visit the Stablau to enjoy storytelling from Aesop's fables and make spooky rook shadow puppets to play with. Why not take them home and make your own shadow puppet story?

Face painting
Local face painter Tammy will be on hand to transform you into scary monsters (£4)

Castle Tours
For those wanting a break from Halloween, why not book onto one of our daily tours to learn about the castle and the famous Ice Tower. (Tour times, availability and topics vary)
