Profile
Caroline Williams - Senior House Steward

I’m the Senior House Steward at Polesden Lacey. It’s my job to ensure that the house is beautifully presented and immaculately cared for, just as Mrs Greville would have expected.

I also look after our fabulous team of house volunteers who have a great collection of stories to tell to help enhance your visit to Polesden Lacey.

I joined the National Trust in 2013, working at Petworth House in West Sussex, before joining the team at Polesden in March 2015.  I love the variety of my job and, forgive the cliché, but really no day is the same!
You can find me doing anything from dusting a priceless ceramic, to giving a tour, organising rotas, researching collections, holding training sessions or planning preventive conservation works.

We will be opening up a lot of new spaces in the house in the next couple of years, so one of the highlights of my job is getting to be involved in this project and coming up with new ways to tell Polesden’s stories.

In my spare time, I enjoy walking in the beautiful Surrey countryside, baking cakes, which the house team tend to devour, and visiting other museums and historic houses – I just can’t get away from my job!
