Enjoy a family Christmas at Quarry Bank

Child making stir up pudding in the Apprentice House at Christmas

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Quarry Bank! This festive season, you and your family can indulge in traditions old and new as we step back into a Georgian Christmas. From Wednesday 29 November 2017 – Sunday 7 January 2018 you’re invited to travel back in time for Christmas in the home of the mill owning Greg family.

Decking the halls of Quarry Bank House

Christmas in Quarry Bank House, home to the wealthy mill owning Greg family, was very different to the simple celebrations of the apprentice children. Step back in time as you meet a cast of characters from the Greg family and their visitors until Sunday 7 January. Are you clever enough to work out the Christmas riddles? Challenge your family to festive games and historic brainteasers, and head to the dining room to find out all about the impressive Christmas feast.

Children meeting Father Christmas at Quarry Bank

SOLD OUT: Meet Father Christmas with your little one

We hope you’ve got your wishlist ready! On your visit, you can meet Father Christmas and tell him everything you’re hoping for this Christmas. You can also have a go at a fantastic festive craft, join in with seasonal games and storytelling, and decorate a gingerbread man to munch on your way home. You can meet Father Christmas on selected weekends in December, and on Fridays there are special sessions for babies and toddlers. Meet Father Christmas is now sold out.

Celebrations in the Apprentice House

Step into the Apprentice House for a taste of Georgian life until Friday 22 December. The apprentices rarely had a treat or a day off, so a cup of tea at Christmas was a real luxury. In the kitchen you can try a piece of currant loaf that the apprentices may have had at Christmas, and help to make ‘stir up pudding’. You can gather round for festive stories in the houseplace, and make dazzling natural decorations or a magnificent mask to take home with you.

The gardens at Quarry Bank in winter

Can you find the lost jingle bells in the garden?

Father Christmas was flying over Quarry Bank in his sleigh, and some of the sleigh bells fell out! Hunt across the upper garden to find all the lost sleigh bells. Rudolph saw them fall, and has left you some clues to help you to find them. Can you discover them all in time for Christmas Day?
