Orchard Day at Smallhythe Place

Smallhythe Place in late summer

Explore our garden, traditional orchard and nuttery. Sample produce from the property, and peruse the local stallholders.

Join us on Saturday 21st September, 11am-4pm as we celebrate the harvest and Kent's local offering in the late summer gardens of Smallhythe Place. From fresh produce straight from our trees, to plants, tasty treats and garden gifts, enjoy a day out with a difference with all the family.

Set amidst a sea of ever-changing colour, the garden is a tranquil retreat capturing the romantic spirit as it was during the Victorian actress Dame Ellen Terry’s time here. Explore the grounds and discover the traditional rose garden, nuttery and ponds, all of which are home to an abundance of wildlife. Our conservation and historical research has helped develop the garden and diversify the flora and fauna; work that recently won us the Silver Gilt award from Kent Wildlife Trust.

Stroll through the apple-laden trees of our traditional orchard and pick you own, play a game of croquet on the old tennis court lawn or wander through the nuttery and wildflower meadows and find a peaceful spot to enjoy a picnic.

Peruse local stalls, take part in a variety of activities, witness demonstrations and join garden tours, there is something for everyone to get involved in. Why not get out and about this season, bring the family together and join us as we celebrate another year’s harvest in Kent.
