'Giving the Earth' tree planting at Winkworth Arboretum with the Friary Shopping Centre
At 10am on Monday 15 February, management and staff from the Friary Centre joined the National Trust gardens team to plant the first of 50 new trees they have donated to Winkworth Arboretum.
Did you know that every tree planted can help to reduce one person’s carbon footprint by up to 15%?
For Christmas last year, whenever a shopper spent more than £75 the Friary Shopping Centre in Guildford gave away a Christmas tree sapling as an eco-friendly gift, to be nurtured and remembered long after the last mince pie has gone.
This year the Centre have donated one tree to the Arboretum for every ten trees given away over Christmas. The campaign was so successful that we now have a 'Friary Forest' of 50 new trees here at Winkworth.
On Monday 15 February 2016 our garden team were joined by staff from the Friary Centre and the Mayor of Guildford Councillor Nikki Nelson-Smith for a morning planting the first trees in this exciting joint venture.
