Self-led activities and half-term fun

Children and conkers

When you arrive at Brownsea Island, the stress of every day life will slide away. There are plenty of places to discover on your own or you can head up to the visitor centre where there are different guided trails and tracker packs available.

The Great Brownsea Storybook trail (suggested donations) is our main trail this year offering the opportunity to kids of all sizes to get outside and have fun.  Discover new twists to old tails as you discover the troll's bridge, get to sit on Alice's seat or help grow back Rapunzel's hair. There are plenty of activities to do along the way with a shorter trail for younger and shorter legs and an extended version for those with more time that will take you up to the exciting natural play area.  During half-term, there will be some spooky additions to our trail, hunt for the old witch's belongings that Hanzel and Gretel have hidden with halloween crafts in the Visitor Centre.

Other trails include the tree climbing and the coastal creatures uncovered (at low tide only- check in the visitor centre for tide times).  Tracker packs will give you an opportunity to explore the island's wildlife a little more closely and there's a fun spotting trail for the really young.

Put your orienteering skills into practice with our routes around the island, we have children and adult routes available.  Packs available from the Visitor Centre or the Outdoor Centre - no need to pre-book.

So get your autumn boots on and come to Brownsea for some glorious views, fresh air, wildlife and adventure.
