How to get to Brownsea Island

Brownsea Island is open for winter weekends between Saturday February 1 and Sunday March 8 Mar, 10am to 4pm. From Saturday March 14 the island will be open from 10am-5pm daily until Sunday November 15 2020.

Planning your winter weekend on Brownsea

You can either travel via boat from Sandbanks Jetty, which is a short 10 min boat ride or come via the larger ferry from Poole Quay, which is a longer 20 min journey.  How to get here from both places and ticket prices are as follows:

From Sandbanks Jetty:

The National Trust vessel the Enterprise will be running the service from Sandbanks Jetty.  Weather permitting, it will leave every hour on the hour from 10am, returning from the island at 45 mins past the hour.  The last boat off the island is at 4pm.  The Enterprise is a small vessel, open to the elements and can carry up to 35 passengers.  

Sandbanks Jetty is a wooden jetty located to the right of the chain ferry terminal and the yellow kiosk.  There is a shelter to wait in and you will only need to pay your boat fare when you arrive on the island.  All visitors, including National Trust members are required to pay the boat fare.

Parking near Sandbanks Jetty

For on street parking please see the Council's website which can be found here.  Charges start from £1.50 to £10  for a 10 hour stay.  There is also the Sandbanks surface car park located a 15 min walk from the Jetty.

From Poole Quay:

There will be an hourly service from Poole Quay run by Brownsea Island Ferries which are the yellow boats, from 10:30am. The ferry fare is payable, along with your admission fee, on arrival to Brownsea Island. Entry is free for National Trust members, but ferry fares still apply.

Poole Quay ferry fares:

  • Family (2 adults and up to 3 children):      £31
  • Family (1 adult and up to 3 children):        £19

National Trust island admission fees:

  • National Trust members:  FREE
  • Adult: Gift Aid: £8.80   Standard: £7.90

  • Family (2 adults and up to 3 children)  Gift Aid: £22.00 Standard: £19.75

(Gift Aid admission includes 10% donation towards the upkeep of the island)

Parking at Poole Quay

Follow signs to the Quay visitors multi-storey car park, where you can use pedestrian signage to locate the quay - a five minute walk away.  

Accessibility

Please note that there is stepped access onto the boat from the Sandbanks Jetty, so visitors must be confident at stepping in and out of the vessel unaided. Less able visitors are encouraged to come from Poole Quay.

We provide free all terrain wheel chairs for adults and also have one available for children. These purpose built wheel chairs are incredibly important for providing comfortable access for those who need it.
