What's new this summer at Cotehele?
There are lots of new things happening at Cotehele this summer, from art in the outdoors and children’s holiday activities to tasty treats. Here are just a few of the new experiences you can enjoy here this year.
Rena Gardiner: Art and inspiration
To commemorate the twentieth anniversary of print-artist Rena Gardiner's summer-in-residence at Cotehele, we're staging an exhibition of her work within the house and wider estate.
In the Breakfast Room of the house you'll find preliminary sketches, detailed drawings, lithographs and linocuts displayed alongside completed works depicting some of the 40 different views Gardiner created of Cotehele in her time here.
In the outdoors, you'll find reproductions of her work within the landscape which inspired them and discover how this special place still inspires people today.
Soft archery with Summer of Sport
We’re thrilled to be offering Soft Archery in the Mother Orchard at Cotehele this year. This is one of the ‘Summer of Sport’ activities, so children taking part in this free drop-in activity will receive a Summer of Sport medal to show they’ve participated.
Meet in the Barn in the orchard if you’d like to have a go. The activity takes place every Wednesday through the summer (from 29 July to 1 September) from 11am-3pm.
Four children can take part at a time and there’ll be other garden games to keep children entertained while they’re waiting for their turn.
Dairy free ice cream
It wouldn’t be summer without ice cream – at least not for us. As part of our aim to have more vegan options available at Cotehele this summer we’ll be selling dairy free ice cream in the Kiosk on Cotehele Quay and the Piggery by Cotehele house.
Watch this space to find out if we’re able to supply a similar tasty treat for all those doggies hot from walkies at the quay too.
Summer exhibition in the gallery
The Cotehele Gallery supports local artists and makers by exhibiting and selling their work. Our summer exhibition, Water and Colour, features a range of beautiful new watercolours, ceramics and prints.
Also, not to be missed in the gallery this summer are some beautiful lino-prints of Cotehele by the acclaimed print-artist Rena Gardiner. We have a limited number of Gardiner's original prints for sale, which you might also have seen in the 'Rena Gardiner: Art and inpiration' exhibition in the Breakfast Room at Cotehele house and around the estate and garden.
