Visiting Dinefwr this January

Visit this historic house and 18th-century landscape park

January 2019 will be a bit different for Dinefwr, as we are putting Newton House to bed for winter.

From the 7 – 31 January 2019 Newton House will be closed, along with the tearooms and the shop. This is so Newton House can undergo a much needed deep clean. It will also provide our conservation team with a chance to undertake essential conservation work.

Just as the servants of Newton House would have done in the 19th century, we are putting the house to bed for winter. The family would often have been away in winter so it was opportune time to give these houses a deep clean, and that is exactly what we are doing. Our teams will be busy beavering away making sure everything is spick and span ready for the house’s reopening in February. Rooms are to be repainted, paintings cleaned and everything will receive a good dusting or two.

Whilst the buildings are closed, the estate will remain open as usual and a mobile catering unit is to be set up by the Visitor Centre.

Keep an eye out for conservation talks happening in January, to provide you with an insight into what happens when a house like Newton House is put to bed for winter.
