Visiting Polesden Lacey with children
Looking for a family adventure? We have 30 acres of gardens as well as a 1400 acre estate to explore at Polesden, so there is always lots to do.
Why not borrow a pair of binoculars and have a go at species spotting? The bird hide is a great place to start looking, but there’s plenty to spot around the gardens and out on the estate. We have an array of butterflies, wild orchids, house martins and swallows.
If you hear a cuckoo while out on a walk, please tell one of our rangers. Cuckoos are in serious decline so it’s great to know if they’re around.
Take on our adventure playground; Squirrel’s Corner is a great place for kids to let loose. There’s trees to climb, blackboards to draw on and obstacles to conquer.
Did you know that we have a Guinness World Record for hill rolling? Seriously – take a look at our certificate in visitor reception.
We have a list of 50 things we think you should do before you’re 11¾, and you can try loads of them at Polesden Lacey, like rolling down a really big hill, making a daisy chain, climbing a tree and flying a kite.
Perfect picnic spots
If you just want to sit back and relax, there are plenty of places in the gardens for picnics. Why not make up your own lunchbox in the Granary Café and find the perfect spot.
The south lawn has beautiful views of our estate; apple orchard has plenty of benches and is great for games; or Home Farm orchard is a lovely and peaceful picnicking place.
