Children enjoying a nature trail through the woodland

At Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal we have more than just the abbey ruins. Come and explore amongst ancient trees in the magnificent deer park. You'd be surprised at what you might find! Cocoons, lizards, newts, toads, millions of millipedes and of course dozens of deer are just waiting to be discovered.

  • In small groups, look for evidence of wildlife with a guide
  • Track down one of our three types of deer
  • Handle deerskins and antlers
  • Search for a myriad of minibeasts
  • Get muddy and see something new
  • Discuss habitats
  • Think about mammals, insects, arachnids and the differences between them
