Family activities at Gibside this summer
Wild summer adventures are what it's all about. All that's left to do, is make the most of them. Here at Gibside, there's plenty of grass for cartwheels, hundreds of trees to help with a game of hide and seek and lots of nature to look out for.
The summer time. It sets the scene for long days playing in the sun, running for what feels like miles and laughing with friends. So where do we fit in?
Well, there's certainly lots of places to do all of those things at Gibside. Let's start with if you're an animal lover, the Bird hide is hidden within the woodlands. Venture up there and if you're quiet, who knows what you'll see up close? Perhaps woodpeckers or Red Kites.
On your way there, don't forget to take a look around all the nooks and crannies - they're home to a range of wildlife and ideal for ticking off lots of '50 things to do before you're 11¾' activities. Especially #22 Explore a tree, #31 Hunt for bugs, #35 Discover what's in a pond and if you're brave enough,.. #30 Hold a scary beast.
If you need some help making your adventures a reality, Strawberry Castle play area awaits you. This wooden fortress is fit for any King or Queen ready to take on the world. There are also swings, a zip wire, water challenge and more. If you're a dare devil, the low ropes course could be for you - can you make it all the way to the other side without falling?
In amongst all of the regulars, we've also got the Gibside Summer Planner. With an activity on every day of the school holidays it shows what's on, and when.
Strawberry Castle kiosk is open during the holidays, perfect for hot and cold refreshments, ice creams and snacks. At the main cafe in market place, alongside an adult menu, there are kids' healthy lunch boxes available which include a sandwich, fruit, drink, a packet of crisps and perhaps a treat. Here you can also find toilets and the shop.
