Spring in the café at Hinton Ampner
Our café is the perfect place to warm up after a brisk walk around our estate. Opening at 10am daily and serving hot food until 2.30pm, take a seat and relax whilst you choose from a variety of homemade tasty treats.
Housed in one of the oldest buildings on the Hinton estate, our café was formerly a stable. Over the years it has had various uses including being the village Social Club. Historically a hub of activity, our café is no different today.
If you are up early and fancy a spot of breakfast with us we offer tasty treats such as sausage rolls, savoury scones and pastries and of course a classic bacon bap. Yours to enjoy every day from 10am – 12pm.
As lunchtime approaches, indulge in our spring menu with our cream of mushroom soup followed by our new asparagus, baby spinach and Isle of Wight blue cheese quiche. This homemade meal is available every day during the season.
We are keen on our local cheeses here at Hinton Ampner. Alongside the Isle of Wight blue cheese, we also use Old Winchester cheese in our new spring vegetable frittata. Needing an outlet for their milk, cheese makers Mike and Judie Smales developed Old Winchester. This Gouda-style cheese aged for 18 months; caramelised, smoky and with crystalline crunches. Paired with our range of spring vegetables, some sourced from our very own walled garden, enjoy a light bite for lunch.
Our menu changes regularly; choose from a varied lunch offer including plated salads and soups alongside hot jacket potatoes and our chicken and leek pie . You'll also find freshly made sandwiches including our smoked trout and homemade tartare sauce sandwich, homemade cake and hot drinks all served on china.
If you fancy something sweet, treat yourself to our apple roulade or tuck into our homemade rhubarb cake with ginger butter icing. Enjoy inside or have it to take away so you can continue to explore our grounds.
From plot to plate
With 70 percent of our food made on site with seasonal ingredients, our veg doesn’t have far to travel as it comes over from our Walled Garden. Taken straight into our kitchen, delicious salads, soups and sandwiches are prepared onsite with our meat also being locally sourced.
Our chefs make all of our food fresh and also cater for gluten and dairy free visitors; just ask one of our café team members for more information. The fully licensed café also sells a variety of local ales and a range of wines.
Pick 'n' Mix
For our younger diners, why not try one of our fun kids' pick and mix lunch boxes, full of tasty and balanced treats. Youngsters can make up their own packed lunch, choosing what they want from our range of sandwiches, drinks, fruit and snacks. On weekends and bank holidays, child sized hot meals are also available so all the family are catered for.
