Newly refurbished and redecorated from top to bottom, now with a woodburner, new kitchen and shower rooms, and a freestanding bath in the main bedroom.

This one-of-a-kind holiday cottage on the Blickling Estate was once the second Earl of Buckinghamshire’s race stand. A stay here feels like retreating to your own little castle, with its large, arched windows, an enclosed spiral staircase and third-floor roof terrace to take in the views.

At the heart of Norfolk's bure meadows, the tower is in the estate's parkland - over 4,600 acres of woodland, parkland and farmland. There are a variety of trails to follow from easy to strenuous, taking in landmarks like the pyramid-shaped mausoleum, woodland dedicated to The Queen in celebration of her Platinum Jubilee, and local villages. There's also a 10k trail-run route with an organised run once a month, and cycle hire from the hub in the Old School.

Blickling's Jacobean mansion is only a 15-minute walk from your door, and you'll have free entry during opening hours. It holds the National Trust's largest collection of books, and has many fascinating rooms to explore. There are 55 acres of gardens including parterre, a kitchen garden and lake, and an RAF museum. Enjoy lunch in one of the two cafés by the hall, or visit The Bucks Arms, a country pub (not National Trust) on one of the estate's drives.

The sandy beaches and cliff top paths of the Norfolk coast are within a 20-minute drive, and Blakeney National Nature Reserve with its large grey seal colony is 15 miles away. Aylsham, a Georgian market town is a 30-minute walk or five-minute drive. It has pubs, restaurants and weekly markets. You can pick up the Bure Valley Railway here, to travel by steam train to the Norfolk Broads.

There are six other cottages on the estate, which can be booked for friends and family holidaying together.
