Killerton BioBlitz

Children bug hunting

Join the ranger team at Caddihoe Scout Camp in Ashclyst forest for Killerton's BioBlitz. Come along, help collect information and join in activities to get to know the inhabitants of Killerton's woodland.

BioBlitz Bat walk - Saturday 27 April

See the wood in a different light on a night walk. There are lots of different bats which call Ashclyst Forest on the Killerton estate home. Join us and have a go at using a ‘bat detector’ to listen to bats as they come life at night in the wood. Sarah Butcher, from Devon Bat Group, will be leading the walk and will introduce you to all the different kinds of bats. You might get lucky and be able to hear species such as Common pipistrelles and Brown long eared bats.

Tickets are £3 per adult, £1 per child, starting at 8.15pm.

BioBlitz Day - Sunday 28 April

Come and help the team at Killerton with some hands on bug hunting, flower counting and butterfly spotting at the BioBlitz day. Everything you help us find will be fed into a database to help us understand more about which animals are living in the woods.

The day kicks off with a bright an early Dawn Chorus walk where you can take a jaunt to listen to the early morning bird song (this event is bookable here). Expert led walks and wildlife survey fun will then continue throughout the day, alongside inspiring nature activities fit for the whole family.

What can you count?

Butterflies, wildflowers, moths and trees are just a few of the stars of the BioBlitz. Hear the dawn chorus and discover creepy crawlies on a walk with a range of experts.
