Hidden Penrhyn Tours: Reaching the parts other tours cannot reach

Ice Tower pit at Penrhyn Castle

Take an extra special trip behind the scenes at Penrhyn Castle with our conservation team and see the parts of the Castle usually off limits to visitors.

Not everybody gets the chance to see behind closed doors, step behind the red ropes or explore the vast cellars at Penrhyn Castle. But for three days a week in June we will be giving visitors the chance to do exactly that.

Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7 June

Led by our experienced conservation team, Hidden Penrhyn tours will look at different parts of the Castle, usually out of bounds to the public, including our cellars, store rooms and Ice Tower.

Take the spiral staicase to the hidden parts of this amazing tower.

As well as exploring behind the scenes, the tours will give an insight into the history and architecture of the castle, how it has changed over the years and how we care for this historic building.

Taya Drake, House Steward explains why the team decided to offer these new tours:.

"We already run Keep and Roof Void tours at Penrhyn and they are really popular. We're always being asked about the cellars and other off limits rooms so we thought we'd give the public a chance to see these places and the work we do..

As a conservation team there's nothing we enjoy more than sharing our collections and buildings with our visitors, and the stories and history attached to them. We’re really looking forward to sharing hidden Penrhyn with the public"

The tours will  last approximatley 45 minutes and visit some parts of the castle that can only be accessed by narrow spiral staircases and walkways. At times they may even require visitors to don fetching hard hats. All part of the fun!

Follow our team up wooden steps and spiral staircases to the out of bounds areas of the castle.
