Explore the outdoors and play in nature

While you’re in the great outdoors, look around you and let your imagination run wild and enjoy some natural play

Take the chance in the new year to tick off as many things from your 50 things before you’re 11 ¾. Pick up things that you see on the ground and create some wild art. See what amazing sculptures you can create and why not try and make something musical.

As the trees are bare at this time of year, take a good look at them, maybe do some bark rubbings or create an imaginary world amongst the tall canopies. Create a trail with the sticks on the ground or use them to build dens. The Satnall hills are the best area on the estate for some den building.

Shugborough is a great place to spark all of your senses. Listen to the running river, feel the textured trees, hear the sound of the wild animals and the wind rustling through the trees. Feel the variety of twigs, leaves and stones on the ground as you make your natural sculpture. Then, taste the seasons by enjoying some tasty treats in our tearooms.

Did you know that we have a new play area?

Our Explorer’s Wood is inspired by the seafaring adventures of George Anson. You can test your balance on our octopus, zip through the forest on our zip wire and climb your way all the way up to the top and look out onto your fellow adventurers below with our climbing logs.

You can also hunt for bugs in our bugborough. Can you see anything hibernating or getting ready for the warmer weather?
