Water vole monitoring

The water vole is one of Britain’s rarest mammals and is a protected species due to its declining numbers, so it's great news that they can be found on the river and streams near Avebury.

The National Trust countryside team have been carrying out surveys looking for field signs of this endearing little mammal since 2007 and in recent years have managed to capture trail camera footage of this animal in its natural environment at the water’s edge.
