Looking for a great way to spend your spare time, meet new people, and make a difference?

Something for everyone

Everyone’s reason for volunteering is unique, from meeting people to learning new skills and making a difference. Our volunteers come from all backgrounds, our youngest volunteer is 14 years old and our oldest is nearly 90 years old - age is no barrier to volunteering!

There are a whole range of volunteering opportunities at Chirk Castle from driving the minibus, gardening and room guiding to assisting in the shop or perhaps helping school children learn about life in the past.  No matter what your previous experience, skills and motivations there is something at Chirk Castle for you.

By volunteering you can make a difference to Chirk Castle and the National Trust and also benefit from improved confidence, self-esteem, meeting people, learning new things, working as part of a team, gaining valuable experience and perhaps find a new hobby / interest.

" I love coming to the castle, no day is ever the same. You never know what will happen or who you will meet!"
- Brian, Chirk Castle volunteer

Our volunteers are invaluable to us

With over 150 volunteers, the team at Chirk is a big, friendly group to become a part of.  With opportunities in all areas of our work there is something for everyone.

  • Help the garden team keep the award-winning gardens in pristine condition.
  • Support the house team to open the castle rooms to visitors.
  • Welcome visitors and help them find their way around.
  • Get stuck in with the Ranger team, conserving the estate.
  • Bring history to life with our costumed guard team.
  • And many more: shop assistants, admin, tour guides, minibus bus drivers, flower arrangers, school guides.

How to get started

If you are interested in volunteering please e-mail your name and contact information to chirkcastle@nationaltrust.org.uk

You will then be contacted and invited to an introduction session where we will explain more about the roles available and register you as a volunteer.

Following this we will provide you with the support and training you will need to undertake your selected role.
