Visitors enjoying a guided tour in Erddig's Grade I listed garden

Wales is a small country with a huge variety of places to visit, from majestic castles that are awe-inspiring to gardens that are, well, simply inspiring. Here are just some of the great group days out you can enjoy with us this year:

Glorious gardens

You can amble along manicured lawns and wildflower meadows.  Walk amongst champion trees and ancient yews. Explore kitchen gardens and garden rooms. And what’s more, our gardens change week by week and season by season so that there’s always something new to discover, whenever you visit.

Castles and fortresses

Wales is famous for its castles and the medieval border fortresses of Chirk Castle and Powis Castle still stand firm on their hilltop sites on the Wales/England border. You can take guided tours of the lavishly furnished state rooms or the beautiful gardens; or you can wander and discover for yourself centuries of stories of the families who lived there.  Or, for something that’s not quite as it seems, visit Penrhyn Castle in North West Wales – where appearances are everything at this magnificent 19th-century fantasy castle.

Ancestral seats and family retreats

Families come in all shapes and sizes and the family sagas that unfolded at the great mansion houses in Wales are as dramatic as any on stage or screen. Discover the story of the Battle of Waterloo war hero or a world-famous artist’s tale of unrequited love at Plas Newydd; find out about the flamboyant family history of the Morgans at Tredegar House, or generations of Yorkes at Erddig, who had an extraordinary relationship with their servants and who recorded them in pictures and verse for over 200 years.
