Half term at Hardwick
Visit this half term and help us welcome Lucretia back to Hardwick with an activity for all the family. Enjoy a walk around the estate and see how many different birds you can see across the estate with our bird spotting challenge.
With the Hall’s re-opening for the new season, we are celebrating the return of Lucretia; one of four large appliqué wall hangings depicting the ‘noble women of the ancient world’ originally made for Bess.
The two-year long conservation of the embroidery is all thanks to our visitor’s generosity through the scanning of membership cards, buying a cup of tea or donating to the project directly. Therefore we’re inviting visitors to celebrate the return of Lucretia with a hands-on activity for all the family.
One of the most fascinating aspects of the ‘noble women’ set of embroideries is the re-use of much older material. We’ll be providing various materials to make our very own fabric collages to take away. Donations are welcome, and will go directly into funding this essential conservation work we do at Hardwick.
Explore the great outdoors. To celebrate National Nest Box Week, we'll be challenging you to see how many birds you can spot across the Hardwick estate. Pick up your spotting sheet from Visitor Reception. Dont miss a visit to the lower park and see newly restored duck decoy.
The garden’s snowdrops will be flourishing around the stumpery and the fairy houses. Enjoy some family fun spotting the various shapes amongst the uprooted oaks in the stumpery – some resemble animals.
Enjoy natural play when discovering Lady Spencer's Wood. The natural play trial is the ideal opprtunity to let little legs run free when visiting this half term.
A stop in the Great Barn restaurant will be a well-earned break. Indulge in one of the menu’s delicious winter warmers and find dishes suitable for all of the family.
