This stroll will stretch your legs and allow you to explore streets around Swindon. The walk includes a pleasant wander down the National cycle route 45 back towards Heelis.

Half a mile on, at the roundabout (going round to the right) take the first exit heading south. After 73yd (67m) turn left onto a footpath, heading south. Continue for a quarter of a mile onto the underpass, heading south. Continue for 150yd (137m) then turn right onto Bristol Street, heading south.

After 27yd (25m), turn left onto Emlyn Square, heading south - you'll soon pass the Bakers Arms pub and then the Cricketers pub.

After 150yd (137m) turn right onto Faringdon Road, still heading south. Continue for 82yd (turning left onto Chester Street heading south. After 150yd (137m) turn right onto Tennyson Street, heading south. Continue for eightyd (then turn left onto an alleyway, heading south. After 40yd (37m) turn left onto a pedestrian and cycle path heading north.

Walk 150yd (137m) and continue onto Canal Walk, heading north. After 250yd (229m) turn left onto Regent Street, heading north. After 150yd (137m) continue straight onto Bridge Street, heading north - you'll initially pass some restaurants and bars.

After 150yd (137m) turn right onto Sheppard Street, heading north. Continue for 34yd (31m) turning left onto the National cycle route 45, heading north. After 88yd (81m) continue onto the underpass, heading north. After 76yd (70m) continue onto the National cycle route 45 heading north. After a quarter of a mile continue straight onto the underpass, heading north. Walk 32yd (29m) and continue onto National cycle route 45, heading north. After 250yd (229m) bear left onto the ramp, heading west.

Walk 33yd (30m) and continue straight onto Great Western Way, heading west.

After 87yd (80m), bear left onto the footpath heading south.

After 44yd (40m) turn right onto Newcombe Drive, heading north.

Go to the left around the roundabout 150yd (137m) on, and then turn off onto Kemble Drive heading south.

Continue walking along Kemble Drive, and at the pedestrian lights turn right with the Outlet Village entrance in front of you. Continue ahead towards the entrance and turn left back to Heelis.

By train

Swindon train station is a ten minute walk, just follow the signposts for the National Trust.

By road

Exit the M4 at junction 16 and follow brown signs for Outlet Centre and follow signs to the car park along Kemble Drive.

From the M5, junction 11a, join the A417 for Cirencester and follow signs to Swindon and M4. Join the M4 for Bristol and exit at junction 16. Heelis postcode: SN2 2NA.

By bus

Regular bus services from Swindon bus terminal in the town centre.

By bicycle

You can use part of the National Cycle Network Route 45.
