Try your hand at this classic recipe. Make it your own by adding different dried or frozen fruits, nuts or seeds.

Peach and seed flapjack
  • Preparation time 20 minutes (prep. time)
  • Cooking time 25 minutes (cooking time)
  • Serves 20


  • 1kg/ 2lb 3oz oats
  • 500g/ 1lb 1oz margarine
  • 800g/ 1lb 12oz golden syrup
  • 500g/ 1lb 1oz caster sugar


  • 500g/ 1lb 1oz dried or frozen fruit ( you can use less if you wish)


  1. Line a 30cmX20cm/ 12"X8" baking tin with greaseproof paper. Preheat the oven to 160 c.

  2. Place the margarine, syrup and sugar in a non stick saucepan over a medium heat. When the ingredients begin to melt give it a stir.

  3. When the ingredients have melted and combined, remove the saucepan from the heat. Gradually add in the oats until the mix is thoroughly combined.

  4. If you are adding any fruits, nuts or seeds stir them through the mixture now.

  5. Tip the mixture into the lined tin and smooth over until even.

  6. Place in the oven for 25 mintues until golden and beginning to crisp on the top.

  7. Remove from the oven and let it cool in the tin. Cut into twenty slices and enjoy.
