Three Living History re-enactors in the Ickworth basement

Did you know that Ickworth is supported by players of the National Lottery? To say thank you to its players we're opening our doors for free...

Back in 2012 Ickworth opened its basement doors following an exciting Heritage Lottery funded project 'Ickworth Lives'.

The project enabled the restoration and innovative interpretation of the servant’s basement for visitors.  It focuses on the period between 1911 and 1939, a period of immense social change which heralded the gradual decline of a ‘life in service’. A key part of the project involved contacting former staff, their families and friends to capture their memories and evocative tales of life below and upstairs.  The resulting oral history archive has been immensely important in bringing the basement to life.

This Wednesday 13th December Ickworth is open free of charge. All you need is a purchased National Lottery ticket or proof of play for a National Lottery draw-based game or scratch card.
